AN APPEAL

Padmabhushan,kalaprapurna Sri Vavilala Gopalakrishnayya is an acknowledged freedom fighter, popular legislator and true follower of Gandhian philosophy, distinguished by the public, within as well as abroad as an examplary person of public life with simple living, high thinking and committed social service. Recognised as such, he is honoured by the Andhra University with the award of Kalaprapurna, by the Government of India with the award of Padmabhushan. He is a great social philosopher dedicated to the uplift primarily of rural people through the promotion of rural economy with full employment on Gandhian lines.

With a small but hard built fund of his pension, and other incidental allowances and various gifts of money as well as books numbering 5000 acquired by him through the seventy years of his public life, an amount of about Rs.2,50,000 is proposed by him for the educational and public cause

A few of his admirers, well-wishers and academicians of a very high order volunteered to commemorate his services and render a practical shape to Vavilala's objectives and views and suggested the promotion of a trust, namely, "vavilala samastha" to which Sri vavilala has agreed and transferred all his life-long savings stated above to the Samastha. The Government of Andhra Pradesh in due recognition of his services and hpilosophy encouraged the samstha by granting land to an extent of 2130 square yards and an amount of Rs.11,40,000 for the construction of the building to be utilised as the venue for the conduct of a centre of educational research and higher studies with the necessary library facilities.

The Samastha is inaugurated by Sri.B.P.R.Vittal,I.A.S. Member, Finance Commission, Govt of India, with the foundation stone laid by Sri Krishna Kanth, Esteemed Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chancellor of Nagarjuna University. Honorary faculty is constituted with Prof.B. Sarveswara Rao, former Vice-Chancellor of Nagarjuna University and an eminent National Economist, and other members of academic excellence. While Sri Vavilala Gopalakrishnayya is the chairman of the Samastha. Dr.K.R.R. Mohana Rao, former Vice-Chancellor of Nagarjuna University is its executive president and Kumari Vavilala Leela Maheswari is its Secretary & Treasurer.

We appeal to the generous and educationally interested Philanthropic minded people to extend their cooperation by their liberal donations to Vavilala Samastha and help the ideals of Vavilala come true.
